Greek-Spiced Braised Short Ribs for Blogger Aid

16

Have you heard about what a few of my favorite bloggers are doing?  Ivy at Kopiaste, Giz at Equal Opportunity Kitchen and Val at More Than Burnt Toast  have teamed together to create Blogger Aid, a network of bloggers banding together to help alleviate world hunger.  Their newest project is a cookbook created by bloggers that will be published and sold with 100% of the profits going toward the World Food Programme.

Anyone can submit an original recipe to this cookbook and help a great cause. But, the deadline for entering is this Thursday, February 12th, so get cracking! Errr…cooking. You can read all about the cookbook and how to contribute here.

For my contribution, I wanted to make something Greek-inspired, but not a typical dish you’d find at the local Greek diner. This recipe combines short ribs, butter beans (gigandes, a popular bean in Greek cooking) and dandelion greens (horta, a common green usually served as a side with lots of fresh lemon and olive oil). It’s comforting and tasty, but…to get the recipe, you’ll  have to buy the cookbook!

  1. Yum, yum Elly this looks sooo good. Although I’ve never had gigantes with meat, I am sure I would like this recipe. Thanks very much for participating and BTW by request of some Bloggers who have just joined us and would like to contribute to the cookbook, we are thinking of extending the deadline, so anyone else wanting to participate, they are welcome to do so and we will accept their entries.

  2. Awesome Elly!!! What a great contribution to the cookbook and if I weren’t already planning to buy the cookbook, I’d be changing my mind by now for sure. They say (whoever “they” is) that if you get one or two good recipes out of a cookbook, you’re blessed. I have a feeling this cookbook will highlite the best of the best. Thanks for joining with us and your most generous addition.

  3. Elly! That looks amazing…what a great recipe and your photos(oh my).
Not to mention, what a fabulous cause. I’m looking forward to seeing the published cookbook!

  4. That looks like a lovely dish Elly. Sometimes I find my braised short ribs a bit on the heavy side, but those look meaty yet light with a wonderful sauce. Great contribution!
